Bloxham WI

The speaker at the September meeting was one of our own members, Mrs Jean Phillips, who gave a fascinating insight into her work as an Assistant Stage Manager in Surry. She was a bit of a rebel she was younger, her father did not want her to go into the theatre at all. She recounted anecdotes from her time in the theatre and how she really was a ‘dogs body’ fetching and carrying for the Director, tea making etc. She left and went to teach at a convent school and met John and the rest is history.

Next meeting, Wednesday 9 November: The Joy of Felt Making – Sue Pearl.

WI County Markets:

While the first WI market was held at Lewes, Sussex in 1919, Bloxham's WI markets started 35 years ago are are held in the Ex-Servicemen's Hall each Friday (except in January), from 10.00am to 11.30am. The WI serve coffee from 10.15am to 11.15am. All our food is freshly prepared, so it can be frozen, and contains no preservatives.

Why not visit, or meet friends for coffee or become a producer? You don't have to be a WI member but you can turn your talents into cash if you are a cook, baker or gardener. Introduce yourself to Laura or Margaret Griffin on a Friday morning and they will provide more information. Contact Mac Grundy if you are interested in plants.

The WI market parcel scheme provides a unique service of delivering a 'happiness hamper' containing a selection of fresh WI market goods to an address of your choice throughout the country . Contact Laura Griffin on 01869 338572 or Margaret Griffin on 01295 720359 for details.
