Debbie
Bloxham writes: "I am contacting you as I noticed
on your 'snippets' page that you mentioned Samuel
Bloxham and Mary Smith, who were married at St Georges
Church, Hanover Square, London W1 in 1725. Are you able
to give me any further information about this couple at
all? Was Samuel Bloxham originally from Bloxham itself,
or a nearby village?
The reason for
my interest is simple - I am married to a Bloxham! We
have managed to trace our family tree with help from
more distant family members, and we are reasonably
certain that Samuel and Mary are our family ancestors.
Although they have been traced to London, we do not know
where they came from originally -the village of Bloxham
would seem to be the best guess! Legend has it that
family members were 'court hairdressers' and therefore
would probably have to have lived in London to be near
the royal households. Either this Samuel and/or his son
-also Samuel- moved to Margate in Kent around 1770, and
future generations have been been found on census
returns for that area. Hairdressing did remain an
occupation for at least one family member! My husband's
branch have lived in Surrey, Luton and Herne Bay,
Kent.
Could I
request that you put a notice about my interest on your
noticeboard page? If anyone wishes to contact me, they
can do so at
debblox@yahoo.co.uk Any information will be
gratefully received. I will also write to your village
museum, to see if anybody there has any information
too. Many thanks in advance, and if we find out any
more, I'll let you know! From Phil and Debbie Bloxham
